Internet Security – Myths And Realities
[ad#ad2] Internet Security – Myths And Realities
As Internet security is a major preoccupation of many people these days, there appeared some myths related to it. These myths can be dangerous sometimes and therefore you can find them in this article in order to remain informed on this matter.
1) Teens hack into your computer
This is one of the most popular myths that exist today related to Internet security. In reality, things are way different. Many times, organized crime and marketers do that. This is because there are many ways they can use information stolen from your computer. They can sell lists of emails for spamming or empty your bank account with the information they get from your computer.
There were cases of identity thefts too so you should be very careful and do not think that some teenagers having fun are trying to hack into your computer. Hacking is a very large business as it is a multi billionaire one.
2) An antivirus is all you need for protection
Only having an antivirus will surely not fully protect you. This is because newer and newer forms of viruses appear every week. Therefore, Internet criminals are always one step ahead of antivirus companies. So, you should have a whole Internet security system if you want to be protected from Internet threats.
3) If you surf on legitimate websites, you will not have problems
If in the past this could be a good advice, nowadays it is an outdated one. This is because it is really hard to see if a website is legitimate or dubious only from its appearance. Just by looking at a website, you can’t tell more things than you really see. Also, there are big companies that have their websites hacked and you would not know that if you are an average user.
4) If you do not have problems, you do not need Internet Security
This is a dangerous myth because many people think that way and remain unprotected. These days, you might not observe that you have a key logger copying all your online banking passwords in your computer. If you do not have the necessary programs installed, you will end up losing money and data.
5) You can’t protect yourself online so you should remain offline
The truth is that even if you protect yourself you can have security breaches into your system. However, if you know what to expect, have a good Internet security system protecting your computer and prepare accordingly you will not lose a lot of things when attacked.
In conclusion, all these myths should tell you the same thing: Get yourself a good antivirus, a good anti spyware program and turn on your firewall.
